Woot, Woot! Zak Has A New Client

The assignment, which includes strategy, creative, design and production, will be led out of the agency's Vancouver office.

Zulu Alpha Kilo has won the AOR assignment for Woot, a daily deals site that is owned by online retail giant Amazon. The assignment, which which includes strategy, creative, design and production, will be led out of the agency's Vancouver office.

Established in 2004, and acquired by Amazon in 2010, Texas-based Woot offers daily deals and limited-time offers across seven categories, including computers, electronics, home and sporting goods.

Its brand is represented by a playful tone that includes a grinning monkey mascot and a mystery daily deal special called "Bag o' Crap" that Reader's Digest once memorably described as including "something wonderful like a laptop, or something totally useless like a single shoe."

It is also known for selling highly sought-after consumer items like Apple Watches and gaming laptops at deeply discounted prices.

According to a release, ZAK will develop a "fundamental brand strategy and positioning" for the site, as well as a new brand identity and a "breakthrough creative platform" to relaunch the brand across the United States.

“As we entered into our 20th year of operations, we wanted to make a big statement for the brand and help expand the business and we’re excited to be partnering with a company like Zulu Alpha Kilo,” said Woot's chief marketing officer Arsalan Ahmed. “When meeting with ZAK, we could quickly see their passion and successful track record for launching great brands that required strategic strength, design expertise and out of the box creative thinking.”

The account win is the latest in a series of successes for ZAK's Vancouver office, including a new partnership with AT2 Aerospace, as well as branding and design for the Vancouver Island Ferry Company's new high-speed ferry service Hullo!, as well as campaigns for Save-On-Foods, Destination BC, and Vancity Original’s bid to bring an NBA franchise back to the city.

“This is such a fun and incredible brand and team to be partnering with,” said managing director David Tremblay. “The opportunity to shift the ecommerce space with a brand that is hungry and quirky is going to be special. We can’t wait to help shape the next phase of their growth."
