We always knew it was going to be tough to win our first-ever Campaign Cup, but now things are starting to get real.
The field has again been cut in half, with just eight ads vying for the title of best Canadian ad of the 21st century.
The Campaign Cup asks our readers to choose their favourite advertising since 2000 in a series of one-on-one matchups, all leading to an ultimate champion.
As was the case in round one, the second round of voting provided some intriguing matchups, with ads that many people would have considered favourites to win it all going down to defeat.
While the agencies and brands behind the eliminated work may feel disappointed to go out of the competition in the second round, it also helps prove the point underlying the Campaign Cup—that Canadian commercial creativity is, and always has been, producing a lot of remarkable work.
When amazing ads lose in the second round, it’s because they are losing to similarly amazing work. That’s not a statement about the shortcomings of the defeated creative, but a testament to the overall quality.
And now, like any great tournament, the competition goes on. Vote now for your favourites here.
