The Boys, Gen V, Reacher, The Handmaid’s Tale, Fargo, Billy The Kid, and The Man in the High Castle.
Pinewood already features more than 250,000 sq. ft. of production space including 11 stages and North America’s largest purpose-built sound stage, making it the first studio in Toronto capable of accommodating large-scale film productions. As a part of the Amazon deal the facility has added five new sound stages for exclusive use, accompanied by workshops and office accommodation, totalling approximately 160,000 square feet.
“Pinewood Group is an industry-leader and with the Toronto region's best-in-class crews, this agreement offers us immense opportunity for the continued expansion of film and series projects in Toronto, Ontario, and Canada,” said Amazon MGM Studios’ VP of Global Business Operations, Dan Scharf, in a release. “We are thrilled our productions will continue to have a home in Toronto for many years to come.”
“The film and television industry is an important economic driver for our city and this new partnership will ensure Toronto’s world class screen industry continues to thrive,” said Mayor Olivia Chow. “This investment by Amazon MGM Studios will also support our creative sector, resulting in jobs for the numerous professions that are crucial to the success of the local industry.”
Though the release does not specify a number, Toronto councillor Paula Fletcher, chair of Toronto’s film, television and digital media advisory board, referred to the deal as a multimillion-dollar investment by Amazon.
